When is hurricane season

Hurricane season runs from June 1st until November 30th, with the peak between mid-August and late October. During the peak of hurricane season, the waters in the equatorial Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico have warmed to help support the development of tropical waves. During hurricane season, these catastrophic storms can wreak havoc on the Miami region and cause damage and injury to homes and people in the community.

Dangers of a hurricane

WINDS

Hurricane winds can reach over 150MPH, which can cause an immense amount of destruction in its path. Strong winds are the most well-known impact of hurricanes. The highest winds occur in a region known as the eye-wall. Hurricane-strength winds can easily damage or destroy windows, homes, and any other non-permanent structures.

FLOODING

Flooding can make for challenging conditions and damage to a home. Slow-moving hurricanes often produce large amounts of rain, which can lead to significant flooding. Water damage can cause you to have to repair or replace many of your items.

STORM SURGE

What is a storm surge? This term, storm surge, is used to define the wall of water that is pushed toward the shoreline as a hurricane moves onshore. The hurricane winds combined with the waves of the tide are the cause of this disaster. A storm surge can be as high as 25 feet above normal water levels, making for deadly circumstances.
